The hour-long delay gave the Buffs time to regroup and formulate an attack before returning to the field. With 17:50 on the clock before halftime, the game entered an intermittent lightning delay. As the first half went on, WT and Northwest Nazarene battled for possession and scoring opportunities. Although Davis beat the defense, his shot rattled the post, eventually being cleared by the Nighthawks. After beating a defender to the corner of the 18-yard box, D'Jonte Davis curled a shot past the defense to freeze Northwest Nazarene goalkeeper Sawyer Price. The game started with a bang as the first scoring chance went in favor of WT.
